Rockstar Games has broken its nearly one and a half year silence and released news about the open-world crime action game GTA VI. The American studio announced the game’s release date without further ado.

Let’s remember that GTA VI was confirmed back in February 2022, and received its first (and so far only) trailer in December 2023. The release was scheduled for this coming fall.
As it became known, GTA VI will go on sale for PS5, Xbox Series X and S only on May 26, 2026. Rockstar needed additional time to bring the game to the required level of quality.
According to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, the delay of GTA VI to 2026 has been brewing for several months. Inside Rockstar, no one believed in the release in the fall of 2025 for a long time: “Too much work, not enough time.”
«”We’re very sorry this is later than you expected. With every game we’ve released, we’ve strived to exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI will be no exception,” Rockstar said.
The studio noted that the interest and excitement around Grand Theft Auto VI are very flattering to the team. Rockstar thanked fans for their support and patience, and also promised to share new information about the game soon.
Set in the Florida-inspired state of Leonidas, GTA VI will see players take on the role of outlaws Jason and Lucia. They promise “the largest and most believable world” in the history of the series.
