Return of Geralt, Trial of Herbs and course for a wide audience: CD Projekt Red revealed new details of The Witcher 4

Following the presentation at The Game Awards 2024, developers from the CD Projekt Red studio shared with the IGN portal new details of the single-player open-world action RPG The Witcher 4 (“The Witcher 4”).

Let us remember that in the debut trailer and The Witcher 4 as a whole, the main role is not played by Geralt of Rivia, who is not familiar from previous parts, but by his matured adopted daughter, Ciri (aka Child of the Elder Blood).

According to the head of development of The Witcher 4, Sebastian Kalemba, since the meeting in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the heroine has passed the painful Trial of Herbs, which made her a mutant, and is preparing to become a full-fledged witcher.

The trailer was created using a modified version of Unreal Engine 5 and pre-rendered on an unannounced Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics card

Since Ciri is a beginner witcher, players will have more freedom in defining their character. In addition, the heroine is distinguished from Geralt by her reluctance to maintain neutrality and the ability to use not only signs, but also magic.

Although the developers placed the main emphasis on Ciri, they also did not forget about Geralt – the White Wolf will indeed appear in the new game (in what role, they do not say), as his voice actor Doug Cockle stated back in August.

The monster’s name is Bauk, and the village from the trailer is located in the far North of the world of The Witcher.

Almost ten years have passed since the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, so The Witcher 4 will be aimed at a wider audience. They will try to make the game more accessible and friendly for beginners.

That is why The Witcher 4 is positioned as the beginning of a new trilogy, and not a continuation of previous parts. The game recently entered active production, employing 400 of CD Projekt Red’s 650 employees.
