Trusted insider Tom Henderson reported in an article for the Insider Gaming portal that Ubisoft is preparing to take the Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six franchise beyond tactical shooters.

According to two of Henderson’s sources familiar with the project, Ubisoft is currently developing a tactical strategy game based on Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege behind the scenes.
Players will take on the role of familiar operators with different skills in missions to storm buildings, rescue hostages, and more. In other words, the gameplay loop will be similar to that of Rainbow Six Siege.
Players can expect a top-down perspective (see Diablo IV) and XCOM-style turn-based combat. One of Henderson’s sources called the game “an updated version of [XCOM] with cinematic cutscenes and all.”
As Henderson reports, the Rainbow Six Siege-based turn-based tactics game is currently rated for 25-30 hours of gameplay, but this figure could still change if the game has to cut out some content.
The turn-based Rainbow Six Siege is expected to release in a year or two on PC and current-gen consoles — PS5, Xbox Series X, S, and (possibly, according to Henderson) Nintendo Switch 2.
Meanwhile, Rainbow Six Siege is preparing for a major update (scheduled for June 10), after which it will transform into Rainbow Six Siege X. The game’s audience exceeds 85 million people.
