Psychogeographic RPG Hopetown Gets Teaser Trailer Featuring Voiceover From Disco Elysium Narrator, Heads to Kickstarter

London-based Longdue, founded by former ZA/UM, Bungie, Rockstar and Brave At Night employees, has released the first teaser trailer for the Disco Elysium-style psychogeographical RPG Hopetown and announced a bolstering of its team.

The published video does not include gameplay footage, but allows you to appreciate the voice acting performed by Lenval Brown, the narrator in Disco Elysium. The actor will give his voice to one of the key characters in the game.

Longdue was also joined by Martin Luiga, co-founder of the creative collective ZA/UM, the author of the first story set in the Elysium universe and seven characters from Disco Elysium.

Brown and Luiga will be working with Piotr Sobolewski, who calls himself a co-creator of Disco Elysium, although his credits list him as a member of the outsourcing company The Knights of Unity, which helped with the game’s production.

Longdue’s narrative director is Grant Roberts, who is credited as the writer of the failed co-op action game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and the online shooter Destiny 2.

Hopetown is set to feature a journalism-based RPG system; emotions, conversations, and memories in place of traditional mechanics, and a mix of Disco Elysium’s psychological depth with Planescape: Torment’s narrative complexity.

Hopetown doesn’t have a release date or target platforms yet, but Longdue is planning to launch the game on Kickstarter, with the crowdfunding campaign set to begin next week, on March 17.
