On the eve of the official 30th anniversary of the Japanese debut of the original PlayStation console, Sony Interactive Entertainment published a thank-you video addressed to players.
In the two-minute video, simply titled “Thank You,” Sony thanks fans for 30 years of gaming, using some of PlayStation’s biggest hits to explain what those years have been all about.
The Last of Us was about love, God of War was about family, Uncharted was about friendship and adventure, Metal Gear Solid was about honor, Demon’s Souls was about the soul, Ghost of Tsushima was about courage, and so on.
It is noteworthy that Sony decided to accompany the very last slide – about persistence – with a still from the pre-release trailer for the gothic action game Bloodborne from the studio FromSoftware, whose fans know about persistence like no one else.
«We’ve shared an incredible journey for the last three decades… Thank you for being a part of it – we couldn’t have done it without you,” reads the description under the PlayStation video.
In honor of the 30th anniversary, Sony also replaced the launch screen on PS5 with the original one from PS1 and added five holiday themes to the newest console – four in the style of previous PlayStation generations and one anniversary theme.
A demonstration of the listed changed PS5 interface elements was organized by the Push Square portal (see video below). Sony hastens to clarify that the promotion is temporary, which fans in the comments are already unhappy with.
