In an interview with PC Gamer on the occasion of the anniversary of the release version of Baldur’s Gate 3, Vincke mentioned that the studio was still working on Baldur’s Gate 4 for a short time and even made some progress.

According to Vincke, against the backdrop of the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, the team was open to continuing work on the franchise: “You are inclined to do the obvious things – make an addon, a stand-alone addon, start producing a sequel.”

First of all, Larian took on the addon: “The engine is there, everything is in place, you just need to rivet the levels and a few new stories.” Progress was not long in coming, because the processes had already been established during the work on Baldur’s Gate 3.

Larian didn’t want to commit to three years of development for the sake of the expansion, but for the sake of Baldur’s Gate 4, that’s a different matter. “Let’s make BG4. Let’s transfer everything from [BG3] to [new game]. People will be delighted,” Vincke recalls.

However, the idea of spending a few more years doing “the same thing” did not appeal to either Vincke or the team. It was decided to move on: “Honestly, I can’t even explain or express how liberated we felt.”

Larian Studios is currently working on two “highly ambitious RPGs” based on its intellectual property. To help with them, the studio opened a new division – it is located in Warsaw.
