Nvidia has announced the release of an experimental version of the Project G-Assist System Assistant AI assistant for desktop PCs with GeForce RTX graphics cards, which will allow you to optimize game and system settings, measure frame rates, and even change the lighting on connected devices. The Project G-Assist AI assistant was announced last year at Computex 2024.

Project G-Assist uses a custom-tuned, 8 billion-parameter Llama-based Instruct small language model (SLM) to interpret natural language instructions and call Nvidia APIs and various third-party APIs to perform actions on the PC.

The AI assistant requires 10 GB and works on PCs with RTX 30, 40, and 50 series desktop graphics cards with at least 12 GB of video memory.

G-Assist can provide real-time diagnostics and recommendations to eliminate system bottlenecks, improve power efficiency, optimize game settings, overclock graphics accelerator, etc.

It can display and export various metrics such as FPS, latency, GPU load, temperature, and more.

The AI assistant can also answer questions about PC components or Nvidia software for the GeForce RTX GPU installed in the PC.

G-Assist can also control certain peripherals and software applications, allowing users to, for example, adjust fan speeds or change lighting on supported Logitech G, Corsair, MSI and Nanoleaf devices.

Project G-Assist uses a third-party SLM designed to run locally — it’s not intended for widespread use as an AI chatbot. G-Assist is available as part of an Nvidia App update that also includes new DLSS override options and the ability to customize display scaling and color settings. A future app update will bring Project G-Assist to laptops with GeForce RTX graphics cards.

Basic requirements for using Project G-Assist:

  • Operating system: Windows 10, Windows 11.
  • Graphics Processor: GeForce RTX 30, 40, and 50 series desktop GPUs with 12GB of VRAM or greater.
  • CPU: Intel Pentium G Series, Core i3, i5, i7 or higher, AMD FX, Ryzen 3, 5, 7, 9, Threadripper or higher.
  • Required disk space: System Assistant – 6.5 GB, voice commands – 3 GB.
  • Driver: GeForce driver 572.83 or later.
  • Language: English.
