Gamers and fans at first sight disliked the remake of the cult psychological horror game Silent Hill 2 from the Polish studio Bloober Team. With each new showing, however, the game looked better and better, and now journalists have gotten to it.
As part of a recent private presentation, staff from IGN, Video Games Chronicle (VGC), Eurogamer and other publications were able to play the first three hours of the Silent Hill 2 remake – from the very beginning right up to the first fight with Pyramid Head.
Journalists reported that the remake reliably conveys the spirit of Silent Hill 2: the atmosphere is consistent, there are no more battles, puzzles make you think, intro videos are recreated frame-by-frame in some places, and the graphics are impressive.
The remake is not an exact copy of the original Silent Hill 2 with new graphics. Bloober Team expanded some sections, introduced additional riddles and endings, and also refreshed the combat system (the ability to dodge appeared).
In general, the demo version added confidence to journalists that the remake of Silent Hill 2 would be worthy of the original source, although the new release does not pretend to rethink the level of Resident Evil 2 – in this regard, it is closer to Shadow of the Colossus.
Along with text material, VGC published 27 minutes of gameplay, and Konami showed a story trailer for the remake. The players were satisfied. “I don’t know who made the trailer, but these people deserve a promotion,” says ramiyohay7286.
Silent Hill 2 will be released on October 8 on PC (Steam) and PS5. The remake is created on the Unreal Engine 5 (using Lumen technology). They promise spine-chilling sound, no loading screens and an optional 90s-style graphics filter.
