Nintendo to Stop Giving Gold Points for Game Purchases Ahead of Switch 2 Reveal

Since 2018, when purchasing Nintendo Switch games at retail or through the eShop, users have received Gold Points to save on future purchases. In the lead-up to the full reveal of Switch 2, this program will be a thing of the past.

Nintendo has announced that it will be winding down the Gold Points initiative within the My Nintendo loyalty program. Purchases will no longer earn Gold Points starting March 25 at 7:00 Moscow time.

Pre-orders made before March 25 (even if payment is made after the deadline) will earn gold points regardless of the game’s release date. In addition, points already earned will not expire until 12 months have passed since they were received.

The availability of Platinum Points (awarded for using various services) will not be affected by the situation with Gold Points: “We sincerely thank you for using the My Nintendo rewards program and apologize for any inconvenience.”

It’s worth noting that the end of the Gold Points bonus program will occur just eight days before a special Nintendo Direct presentation dedicated to the upcoming hybrid gaming console Nintendo Switch 2.

Journalists and gamers are hoping that the refusal to offer gold points ahead of the new Nintendo Switch 2 reveal means that Nintendo is preparing to announce an alternative bonus program (with an eye on the new console).

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be released in 2025 and will be compatible with digital and retail versions of Switch games. However, game vouchers for the original console will not work with exclusives on the new console.
