New games, classic revivals, and genre experiments: Company of Heroes creators reveal strategy after leaving Sega

Canadian studio Relic Entertainment (Company of Heroes series, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War), which last spring became independent for the first time in 20 years, spoke about its plan of action after parting ways with Sega.

First, Relic will continue to support existing games, including the military strategy game Company of Heroes 3, which debuted in 2023. The Fire & Steel expansion was recently introduced for the project.

The expansion includes four new battlegroups for multiplayer, co-op, and versus AI. Fire & Steel will be released on PC (Steam) in late February and will cost $25. A recent trailer for the DLC is embedded below.

Secondly, the studio will begin actively developing and publishing small games of various genres. These projects will be inferior in complexity to the strategies (they will not go away either), for which the company is famous.

Third, Relic will begin exploring ways to introduce its classic games to modern audiences. Options include re-releases, remasters, and new releases in established franchises.

Relic Entertainment CEO Justin Dowdeswell called this new chapter in the studio’s history a significant milestone in a press release announcing the announcement.
