Netflix gaming division headed by Epic Games executive

Alain Tascan, former executive vice president of game development at Epic Games, has become the new president of Netflix’s gaming division. Mike Verdu, who previously headed the gaming division of the streaming service, has moved to another position at Netflix, joining the department “at the forefront of gaming innovation,” Variety reports.

In his previous role at Epic Games, which he held since 2018, he was responsible for the production and support of the company’s own products: Fortnite and its modes like Lego Fortnite, as well as games Rocket League and Fall Guys. He agreed to join Netflix, he said, because he “firmly believes that Netflix has a unique opportunity to change the future of gaming.”

Netflix has been focusing on gaming since 2021. So far this direction has not become the main one for the company, but its library of mobile projects is becoming increasingly popular among subscribers. Lately, the company has pivoted to games tied to its most popular series, with a new season of Emily in Paris releasing on August 15 alongside the launch of a companion game. Netflix recently committed to releasing a new game every month.

The arrival of Tuscan will help the company work on the most promising and large-scale projects, including blockbuster games and those that can be played on TV and in the cloud.
