A group of enthusiasts led by culinwino has revealed the exact release dates for the public demo of Fallout: Vault 13, an unofficial remake of the original Fallout using the Fallout 4 engine.

The demo will be released on August 9 at 4:00 Moscow time (August 8 at 21:00 Eastern Time). The link will be published on Discord.

Players will be able to explore approximately a third of The Commonwealth, including Vaults 13 and 15, Shady Sands, and The Khans’ camp. As the authors said, the trial version was 90% ready three months ago, but, as in the case of Fallout London, its release had to be postponed due to the unexpected release of the “next generation” update for Fallout 4, which caused a “mod apocalypse.”

Fallout: Vault 13 is a “total conversion” that completely transforms Fallout 4. The developers intend to recreate the entire first Fallout, including the classic dialogue system and ability system, but with a first or third person view – there will be no original isometric perspective. Locations and other features are reproduced without exact repetition – the layout of settlements and buildings is slightly changed, and some skills are replaced by others from later games in the series.

The developers have not published new gameplay videos on the project’s YouTube channel for two years. In 2022, they showed the creation of the character and a fragment of the passage in Shady Sands – the video collected 265.5 thousand views and 8.3 thousand likes. Users especially appreciated the beginning of the passage, where the hero was able to kill a cave rat with only the third shot. “Missed twice while shooting at the first enemy,” wrote gabewilliams380. “It really feels like Fallout 1.” “My dream is coming true,” admitted ikiwe9730. – I can’t wait to play. Thank you for all the effort you put into this project.”

Fallout: Vault 13 is one of the largest mods for Fallout 4, comparable to the aforementioned Fallout London. In August 2023, the final chapter of another major mod, Sim Settlements 2, was released, and sometime in the future the ambitious Fallout Miami, which has been in development for eight years, and Project Arroyo (a remake of Fallout 2 using the Fallout 4 engine) are expected to be in development which the Fallout: Vault 13 team is participating in.
