Monster Hunter Wilds Breaks Into Steam’s Top 10 Most Popular Games of All Time, Beating Baldur’s Gate 3, Hogwarts Legacy, and Elden Ring

Capcom’s fantasy action game Monster Hunter Wilds has barely debuted on Steam, and has already entered the top ten games with the highest peak online in the history of the service. At the same time, user reviews leave much to be desired.

Let us remind you that Monster Hunter Wilds debuted on PC and consoles today, February 28, at 8:00 Moscow time. Just three hours after the premiere, 987,482 Steam users were registered in the game.

The achieved result became a record for Capcom games on Steam and more than doubled the best figures for previous parts of the series on the platform – Monster Hunter: World (334,684 players) and Monster Hunter Rise (231,360 people).

In the Steam rankings for maximum peak online, Monster Hunter Wilds took eighth place at release, ahead of Elden Ring (953.4 thousand players), Hogwarts Legacy (879.3 thousand people) and Baldur’s Gate 3 (875.3 thousand users).

Monster Hunter Wilds’ user review rating is not setting any records. At the time of publication, it is 42% (“mixed” reviews), and when taking into account purchases outside of Steam, it does not exceed 35% (“mostly negative”).

Players are complaining about the “worst optimization” in history, crashes, and performance on Steam Deck. The negative reviews, however, did not stop Monster Hunter Wilds from topping the Steam sales charts worldwide shortly after its release.

Monster Hunter Wilds was released on PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X and S. Critics were delighted with the game shortly before the premiere – the new product equaled Monster Hunter: World in terms of rating on Metacritic (88-90%).
