Larian revealed Baldur’s Gate 3 player statistics for the year since release – valiant deaths, romantic partners, endings

The developers of Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian Studios continue to celebrate the first anniversary of the release of the fantasy RPG: following the opening of a second YouTube channel, the studio shared interesting player statistics for 12 months.

About 93% created their own character to travel through Baldur’s Gate 3 (15% of whom chose Dark Seduction). Among heroes with history (7%), Astarion (1.21 million), Gale (1.2 million) and Shadowheart (0.86 million) took the lead.

The most popular race when creating a character turned out to be elves (more than 13 million), half-elves and humans (12.5 million each), and among the classes the most popular was the paladin (priest is still at the opposite end of the list).

A few more statistics:

  • 141,660 players completed the “Valor” mode, while 1,223,305 people were defeated (76% of them valiantly deleted their save);
  • 1.9 million players were turned into a wheel of cheese, and another 3.5 million were sent to meet dinosaurs;
  • 2 million users freed the intelligence devourer nicknamed Us during the prologue;
  • Gamers stroked the dog Shkryab more than 120 million times and another 41 million times the baby bear cub;
  • 141,660 daredevils tried to pet His Majesty the cat in the Last Light tavern.

Larian also revealed Baldur’s Gate 3 players’ metrics regarding romantic preferences, important plot decisions, and even endings, so there may be spoilers below.

What else did the Baldur’s Gate 3 developers say about user achievements:

  • 75 million kisses went to the player’s companions – Shadowheart in first place (27 million), and Mintara in last (169.9 thousand);
  • 15.6% spent the holiday night alone, 13.5% with Karlach, and 32.5% with Shadowheart;
  • The final romantic scene with Shadowheart in the third act was seen by 48.8% of users;
  • More than 1.1 million slept with the Emperor, but only 37% agreed to his real form;
  • 658 thousand people spent the night with the Druid Halsin (in 70% of cases he was in human form);
  • 1.8 million players betrayed the Emperor at the end of Baldur’s Gate 3;
  • 3.3 million gamers destroyed the Netherian brain (200 thousand at the cost of Gale’s life);
  • 34 users playing as Laezel committed suicide when Vlaakith denied them access to ascension.

Baldur’s Gate 3 left early access on August 3, 2023 on PC (Steam, GOG), and subsequently reached macOS, PS5, Xbox Series X and S. Sales of the game are “well over 10 million” copies.

Although Larian has already switched to developing two huge, ambitious RPGs, Baldur’s Gate 3 is still waiting for the seventh major patch (to be released in September) and previously promised improvements (like cross-play, photo mode).
