Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke recently spoke to GameSpot in a video interview about the studio’s approach to creating its next projects after the acclaimed fantasy RPG Baldur’s Gate 3.

Earlier, it was reported that Larian had taken on the creation of “two extremely ambitious RPGs.” Baldur’s Gate 4 is definitely not among them, as is the DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3 — Vincke called the development of add-ons “boring” and “devoid of passion.”
According to Vincke, Larian is currently “deeply into work on the next project” and is progressing “actually quite well.” The studio chief noted that the game is “insanely ambitious.”
Larian is currently forming a team that will come up with stories for the studio’s games that have not yet been launched into development.
At the same time, work is underway on a second game within the walls of Larian. Vincke explained that this is to avoid situations where, after completing a major project, most of the team is forced to sit idle for some time.
«”I hope that in five years I can say: we have solved the mystery, we have figured it out. Here is the first game, and now we are doing something completely different. And when the second game comes out, we will have something different ready,” Vincke hopes.
The first of two RPGs in development from Larian is codenamed Excalibur
However, Vinke admits that there may be a deviation from the plan: “If we can make the system work and enjoy life at the same time, the mission is accomplished. In reality, we will probably suffer, and many things will go wrong in the process.”
The mention of a five-year period is not accidental. Vincke noted that Larian cannot afford to delay the development of the next RPG beyond 2030. “My wife will divorce me if the game takes longer,” the studio head admitted.
