It looks like Resident Evil 5 will be getting a new lease on life on modern platforms 15 years after its release

Following Resident Evil 6, another game in the series from seventh-generation consoles has received a new classification from the American rating agency Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).

We are talking about the action horror Resident Evil 5, which was released more than 15 years ago. The Video Games Chronicle (VGC) portal noted that a page for an unannounced version of the game for Xbox Series X and S appeared on the ESRB website.

The ESRB classification does not contain any details about the new edition – the unconfirmed release was assigned the same “mature” (“17 years and older”) rating as the other versions of the project.

According to VGC, the new classifications indicate that Capcom has plans to re-release Resident Evil 6 and now Resident Evil 5 on current-gen consoles, possibly with additional graphical enhancements.

The likelihood of potential ports being exclusive to the Xbox Series X and S is extremely low, so PS5 versions are likely in development behind the scenes as well. Remasters tend to launch on Xbox and PlayStation at the same time.

In 2022, Capcom has already updated Resident Evil 7, the Resident Evil 2 remakes, and Resident Evil 3 for current-gen consoles, implementing faster loading times, 120fps support, and ray tracing.

Resident Evil 5 debuted in March 2009 on PS3 and Xbox 360, came to PC in September, and was later released on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. According to Capcom, combined sales of all versions of the game amount to 15.3 million copies.
