Insider: Ubisoft is also tired of the “Far Cry formula” and will rethink the gameplay for Far Cry 7

Trusted insider Tom Henderson has shared details of two unannounced Far Cry games – the next numbered part (codenamed Blackbird) and the evacuation shooter (Maverick).

According to Henderson, Blackbird and Maverick are still in production at Ubisoft Montreal, but due to difficulties during development, their release was postponed from 2025 to 2026. With both games, Ubisoft aims to move away from the “Far Cry formula” that has become boring to gamers.

In addition to the gameplay loop, Ubisoft Montreal allegedly seriously reworked the movement systems in both games, adding “tactical sprinting”, tackles, jumping over obstacles and other elements.

Some aspects of evacuation shooters, such as the inventory system and loot collection, were allegedly leaked from Maverick to Blackbird

Ubisoft Montreal looks at Blackbird with optimism, while Maverick causes concern among employees: the project was approved as part of the pursuit of the success of evacuation shooters, but the popularity of such games leaves much to be desired.

The recent announcement of the closure of the free-to-play shooter XDefiant and the subsequent layoffs of employees are seen as the beginning of a crisis. The message from CEO Yves Guillemot did not instill confidence in employees.

Blackbird and Maverick are created on the Snowdrop engine

The events of Maverick will unfold in the fictional region of Alaska, where players will have to fight for survival against difficult natural conditions (search for resources, hunt, create equipment, upgrade weapons) and with each other.

Blackbird (Far Cry 7) will offer in 24 real hours, or three in-game days (the timer is reflected on the hero’s wristwatch), to save your family from a sect that conducts hallucinogenic experiments on animals and children.
