“I hope one day my grandchildren will be able to play 1.0”: the creators of Star Citizen revealed what to expect from the release version

At the recent CitizenCon 2954 festival, Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) staged not only a new screening of the single-player action game Squadron 42, but also a presentation of the release version of the ambitious space simulator Star Citizen.

During the hour-and-a-half-long “Stars Are My Destination” talk, which CIG posted on YouTube the day before, key Star Citizen developers, including CIG head Chris Roberts, talked about what to expect from 1.0.

At launch, Star Citizen will offer a sandbox MMO with a mix of PvP, PvE and non-combat gameplay, an extensive guild and profession system, taxation mechanics, meaningful gameplay loops, a story campaign and end-game content.

According to the developers, Star Citizen 1.0 is much richer and deeper than the version promised on Kickstarter in 2012. Therefore, at release, instead of 100 star systems, the game will have five, but much more intense ones.

The presentation also revealed that in 1.0 it will be possible to create your own space stations (the demo starts at 43:57), combine them with others and build capital ships with their help.

Roberts added that CIG will continue to develop Star Citizen after the 1.0 release: “It will be a live game. We won’t make Star Citizen 2.0, it will continue to grow, not that we will release Destiny 2 after Destiny 1.”

Star Citizen’s fundraising has reached $732 million, but CIG appears to be spending more than it earns. There is no release date for version 1.0. “I hope one day my grandchildren can play 1.0,” shared DaleTwokey.
