Yesterday’s postponement of the looter shooter Borderlands 4 has added fuel to the fire of rumors about the release dates of the crime action game GTA VI from Rockstar Games. Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford commented on the situation.

Let us recall that the release of Borderlands 4 was announced for September 23, but the day before, Gearbox announced the postponement of the game to September 12. The premiere of GTA VI, meanwhile, was and remains planned for the fall of 2025.

Fans have speculated that Take-Two Interactive, which owns both Gearbox and Rockstar, is trying to clear some space on its calendar for GTA VI, but Pitchford has other ideas.

On his microblog, Pitchford assured that the decision to move Borderlands 4 to an earlier date is “literally 0% dependent on the actual or theoretical release date of any other product,” including GTA VI.

«”Borderlands 4 being out early is 100% a result of confidence in the game and the development trajectory, backed up by the speed of real-world tasks and bug-finding/fixing,” Pitchford says.

Earlier it was reported that three major game publishers are ready to postpone the release of their projects to avoid competition with GTA VI: “Essentially, GTA VI is a huge meteorite, and we are trying not to get into the impact zone.”

GTA VI is only confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series X and S consoles. Analysts estimate that pre-order revenue for the game will exceed $1 billion, and the action movie will earn $3.2 billion in its first year.
