From release to closure in two weeks: Sony has removed the hero shooter Concord from sale, and will soon turn off the servers

The team-based hero shooter Concord from Firewalk Studios, which is owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment, failed to attract players after release, and the project will not have a second chance.

As a reminder, Concord launched on August 23 (August 20 for Advanced Access pass holders) on PC and PS5. There are no statistics on the Sony console and the Epic Games Store, but on Steam the peak online did not even reach 700 people.

Sony did not waste time or money: on September 6, Concord servers will be turned off, and sales of the game will stop immediately. All buyers (owners of retail copies will have to contact their store) are promised a refund.

Exactly two weeks will pass from the release to the closure of the Concord servers

According to Concord development manager Ryan Ellis, many aspects of the shooter resonated with users, but other elements of the gaming experience and the launch of the project as a whole did not live up to expectations.

Ellis added that after Concord is turned off, developers will explore options for what to do next. Apparently, one of the options will be to relaunch the game (potentially with a shareware distribution model).

The industry knows examples of successful relaunch of service games, but for every Final Fantasy XIV there is its own Anthem. Let us remember that Electronic Arts planned to completely reassemble it, but after about a year it abandoned the initiative.

Concord proposed to assemble a squad of space criminals who carry out dangerous missions and compete with other free shooters. They planned for at least a year of new content for the game.
