The failed reboot of the Twisted Metal racing action series from the British studio Firesprite (Horizon Call of the Mountain) has received new details and even screenshots more than a year after its cancellation.

As noted by journalists from the Video Games Chronicle portal, details and gameplay footage of the cancelled game were published on the personal website of former Firesprite senior programmer Hugo Silva.
According to Silva’s website, the project was codenamed Project Copper. The name Twisted Metal does not appear in the portfolio, but the developer describes the game as a racing action game based on a “classic PlayStation franchise.”
According to Silva, the project was a third-person battle royale with the ability to exit the car. As evidence, the developer attached several screenshots, blurred due to a non-disclosure agreement.
The fact that Twisted Metal fell into the hands of Firesprite employees was reported by the Video Games Chronicle portal in January 2022. Initially, the game was allegedly produced by Lucid Games, a studio known for Destruction AllStars.
The new Twisted Metal was canceled last winter amid layoffs at PlayStation. According to Bloomberg, the project was conceived as a game-as-a-service, was in early development, and never received final approval from management.
Sony allegedly planned to time the release of the Twisted Metal reboot to coincide with the premiere of a comedy series based on the series in 2023. The game ultimately did not survive until release, and the show was renewed for a second season.
