Everything is over, only tears remain: the authors of the fan remake of the first Fallout stopped development, but not because of Bethesda

A group of modders responsible for Fallout: Vault 13 – an unofficial remake of the original Fallout on the Fallout 4 engine, which impressed players with a public demo in August – shared unpleasant news about the development of the project.

Fallout: Vault 13 co-director culinwino said that “after careful consideration” the team decided to stop production of the remake. As the famous song by The Ink Spots says, “It’s over, all that’s left are tears.”

The fate of many other fan remakes of Fallout: Vault 13 did not befall – the modders decided to cancel the project of their own free will, and not because of threats from the owner of the franchise, Bethesda Softworks.

According to culinwino, the situation was the result of several factors, including burnout, difficulties recruiting and retaining talent, and personal circumstances of key team members.

«I know this may come as a surprise to many, and we sincerely apologize for any disappointment this may cause. Despite everything, we are incredibly proud of what we have achieved. The release of the demo was a great achievement, and its success showed how much effort and enthusiasm the team and community put into the project,” assured culinwino.

Following the cessation of production, the Fallout: Vault 13 team intends to upload the current build of the project to Nexus Mods and release a retrospective reviewing the progress made by the team.

Fallout: Vault 13 is not the only ambitious remake of the classic game in the series on the Fallout 4 engine. Since 2018, Fallout 4: Project Arroyo, a reimagining of Fallout 2, has been in development. In June, the project headed for Steam.
