The psychological horror Alan Wake 2 from the Finnish studio Remedy Entertainment was released 15 months ago, but has not yet begun to bring profit to the developers. Epic Games management does not intend to help the game by releasing it on Steam.
Let us remember that Epic Games financed the development of Alan Wake 2 and “seriously” invested in marketing. As a result, when released in the fall of 2023, the PC version of the game turned out to be an Epic Games Store exclusive.
Exclusivity dates have not been officially announced, but ahead of the premiere, Epic Games Store head Steve Allison mentioned that Alan Wake 2 would not appear on Steam for “a long time” after its release on EGS.
User Freaky_Ass_69_God from the Reddit forum recently asked Epic Games head Tim Sweeney via email when Alan Wake 2 could be expected on Steam – in 2025 or at least in the next couple of years.
Sweeney responded, but couldn’t please the Alan Wake 2 fan: “It won’t be released on Steam.” In a statement to 80 Level, the CEO of Epic Games confirmed that the screenshot posted by Freaky_Ass_69_God (see image below) is real.
In the comments, Reddit members called Epic Games’ decision not to release Alan Wake 2 on Steam “financial suicide.” Others prepared to be patient. “I’ll wait. I’ve been waiting 13 years for Halo 3 [on PC],” shared Alyeska23.
The history of the industry has shown that even eternal exclusives sooner or later cease to be so. The Kingdom Hearts series arrived on Steam three years after EGS, and Red Dead Redemption came to PC 14 years after its debut on consoles.
