Enthusiast Launches Legendary Shooter Doom 2: Hell on Earth on Soviet Tram

You can watch three things endlessly: fire burning, water flowing, and Doom being ported to devices not intended for it. This time, the classic shooter from id Software was launched on the on-board computer of a Soviet tram.

An enthusiast from a YouTube channel called “Group Rheostat Controller” reported on a successful experiment: “An idiot’s dream came true. I launched Doom on a tram car!”

The 57-second video published by Group Rheostat Controller shows Doom 2: Hell on Earth from 1994 running on the on-board computer of an LM-68M2 tram car.

The original LM-68M tram car was produced from 1973 to 1988, and the LM-68M2 is its “deep modernization”, produced since 2012, including in the “Retro” variation (used for the game).

According to the author of the experiment, the only obstacle to running Doom 2: Hell on Earth in the LM-68M2 tram car was the lack of compatibility with USB keyboards on the on-board computer (they had to use one with a PS/2 connector).

At the beginning of the video, the enthusiast warns users against trying to repeat his experiment, since the breakdown of expensive equipment entails personal liability for the person responsible for it.

Previously, Doom fans launched the classic shooter in Paint, Notepad, a PDF file, a Word document, and even inside the Google search bar, and in February, the developer successfully ported the game to Apple’s HDMI adapter.
