Dragon Age: The Veilguard didn’t live up to Electronic Arts’ expectations, but EA Sports FC 25 disappointed even more

The American publisher and developer Electronic Arts published preliminary results for the third quarter of the current financial year, in which it mentioned the first data on the success of the action role-playing game Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

According to Electronic Arts, over the past quarter, Dragon Age: The Veilguard attracted 1.5 million players (an indicator for two months), which is almost 50% lower than the result that the company expected.

As noted by IGN, EA does not call the figure of 1.5 million sales – Dragon Age: The Veilguard is also available with an EA Play Pro subscription. It is also not specified whether we are talking only about the full game or whether the free trial version also counts.

EA’s biggest disappointment in the quarter came from its soccer franchise EA Sports FC, which tanked at the end of 2024 after two consecutive years of growth. EA CEO Andrew Wilson, in particular, highlighted EA Sports FC 25.

«We continued to deliver high-quality games across our portfolio in the third quarter, but Dragon Age and EA Sports FC 25 did not deliver expected net revenues,” Wilson said.

As a result of the failures of Dragon Age: The Veilguard and EA Sports FC 25, EA management lowered its forecast for the third quarter (from $2.4-2.55 billion to $2.22 billion in net revenues) and the fiscal year as a whole (from $7.5-7 .8 billion to $7−7.15 billion).

Despite the misfires, Electronic Arts intends to return to sustainable growth in the next fiscal year (starting in April) by “launching even more of our iconic franchises.”
