CD Projekt Red will not follow players’ lead when developing The Witcher 4

Over the nine years since the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, fans have already accumulated a lot of thoughts about what the continuation of CD Projekt Red’s fantasy saga should be. The Polish studio, however, goes its own way.

The TweakTown portal noticed that at a teleconference with investors, CD Projekt management was asked about the influence of players’ opinions on the development of Polaris (codenamed The Witcher 4).

CD Projekt co-director Michał Nowakowski assured that when developing the plot and gameplay of The Witcher 4, the team will trust its instincts, and not rely on polls of fans and players.

According to Nowakowski, CD Projekt Red has never used surveys to guide the development of the game and has no plans in the future: “We started planning the next trilogy a long time ago and are moving accordingly.”

«To be honest, we have never relied on any surveys in our development history. Here it is important to know your niche, be an expert in it and trust your own intuition,” Novakovsky explained.

The Witcher 4 will be the beginning of a new trilogy. It is unclear what the game will be about, but the witcher Geralt of Rivia will definitely not be its main character. The project is a large RPG in the open world on Unreal Engine 5.

Polaris currently employs 410 (out of 630) CD Projekt Red employees. The team has made “significant progress” and is nearing exit from pre-production. Active development will begin before the end of 2024.
