Bloodborne Turns 10 – Sony Forgot About the Game, But Fans Have Their Own Celebration

Exactly 10 years ago, on March 24, 2015, boxes with one of the last remaining high-profile PS4 exclusives, the gothic action game Bloodborne from FromSoftware, hit the shelves of North American stores.

Bloodborne received critical acclaim upon release (92% on Metacritic), has gained a cult following over the years, and has sold at least 7.46 million copies worldwide.

It seemed that a sequel or at least a port to new target platforms was inevitable, but over the past 10 years, Sony Interactive Entertainment has done nothing with Bloodborne (except put a spoke in the wheel of fan projects).

Former PlayStation Studios head Shuhei Yoshida recently suggested that Bloodborne has yet to receive a remaster and/or sequel due to the excessive workload of its director and FromSoftware head Hidetaka Miyazaki.

In the absence of official announcements, fans have taken matters into their own hands. The shadPS4 emulator’s progress in playing Bloodborne on PC has already amazed players and impressed a Digital Foundry specialist.

In celebration of the anniversary, fans have once again organized the Return to Yharnam event, which invites players to return to Bloodborne until April 7: create a new character, summon as many assistants as possible, and leave messages for others.

Contrary to fans’ dreams, Bloodborne is currently only officially available on PS4. The story follows the Hunter as he uncovers the secrets of the city of Yharnam, where a mysterious disease is turning its inhabitants into horrific monsters.
