Following Friday’s teaser, publisher and developer Blizzard Entertainment has introduced a limited-time mode for its free-to-play team shooter Overwatch 2 that will allow you to remember where it all began.

The mode is called Overwatch: Classic and will offer to relive what the original Overwatch was like when it was released in May 2016: 6v6 gameplay (without restrictions on the composition of roles in the first days), 21 heroes, 12 maps and four modes.
Overwatch: Classic will bring back the original gameplay, heroes and maps (although some locations will appear in the form of Overwatch 2). Loot boxes, the original interface and competitive mode are not included in the initiative.
To enhance the feeling of nostalgia, players will only be able to use standard character skins. A separate client for the mode will not be needed – Overwatch: Classic can be found in the Overwatch 2 menu.
The announcement was accompanied by a nostalgic trailer. Overwatch: Classic will last from November 12 to December 2 and will not be the last of its kind: the developers plan to relive other stages of the development of the original game in the memory of fans.
At the same time, the new mode is not part of the Overwatch 2 team’s previously confirmed experiments with the “6 vs. 6” format. Nor does it signal the testing of the final return of “6 on 6” to the game.
Let us remember that the original Overwatch closed in October 2022 with the release of Overwatch 2, but the sequel, as it developed, lost its main distinguishing feature from the first part.
