BioWare commented on the possibility of releasing a collection of Dragon Age remasters in the style of Mass Effect Legendary Edition

The Mass Effect Legendary Edition, released in 2021, was a real gift for fans of the series. Amid the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, BioWare commented on the likelihood of such a collection being released for Dragon Age.

Let’s remember that Mass Effect: Legendary Edition includes remasters of the first three RPGs in the series, released in 2007, 2010 and 2012. The games’ graphics have been improved, the technical components have been improved, and some mechanics have been adjusted.

Dragon Age fans have been dreaming of such a collection since the release of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, but according to BioWare creative director John Epler, it’s not that simple.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Epler emphasized that the Mass Effect trilogy games ran on the Unreal Engine, while Dragon Age: Origins (2009) and Dragon Age 2 (2011) were based on the Eclipse engine, and Dragon Age: Inquisition (2014) was based on Frostbite.

Over the years, the studio has switched entirely to Frostbite, which poses its own challenges: “I’m probably one of the 20 people left at BioWare who have even touched Eclipse.”

Hype around Dragon Age is currently on the rise, thanks in large part to the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard yesterday, October 31st. The game earned high (and not so high) ratings and set a popularity record for BioWare projects on Steam.
