The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster, which was released yesterday, does not threaten Skyblivion, an unofficial remake of the fantasy role-playing game on the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim engine. Moreover, Bethesda gave modders a pleasant surprise.

As a reminder, the modding team from TESRenewal has been working on Skyblivion for over 11 years and previously expressed hope that there would be room in the world for both an official and unofficial remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
With the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered (that’s what the updated version is called), Bethesda Softworks has made it clear to TESRenewal that it has no plans to shut down Skyblivion.

Additionally, as a sign of goodwill (or with the secret goal of sabotaging production), Bethesda gave away a copy of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered to every member of the Skyblivion development team.
«As die-hard fans, we are incredibly grateful for the generous gift of Oblivion Remastered keys for the entire modding team! This means so much to us. Thank you for everything, Bethesda,” TESRenewal thanked the publisher.

At the end of December, TESRenewal reported that the Skyblivion map was 93% complete, 3D objects were 94% complete (2354 out of 2508), quests were 97% complete (193 out of 199), and unique world spaces were 55% complete (11 out of 20).
Skyblivion is scheduled for release in 2025. The mod will be distributed absolutely free of charge, but will require legal copies of both Oblivion (with all add-ons) and Skyrim (regular version or Special Edition) to play.
