It’s been over a year and a half since the triumphant release of Larian Studios’ fantasy RPG Baldur’s Gate 3, and the franchise’s future remains unclear. However, it won’t always be that way.

Recall that last spring, Larian shocked fans by announcing the abandonment of plans to develop add-ons for Baldur’s Gate 3 and Baldur’s Gate 4, but Hasbro (owner of Dungeons & Dragons) was interested in continuing the series.
A year later, Hasbro’s senior vice president of digital games Dan Ayoub told IGN that with Larian gone, “a lot of people were very interested in Baldur’s Gate.”
«We’re currently working on the future [of the Baldur’s Gate franchise] and what we’re going to do with it. In fact, we’ll have a lot to talk about pretty soon,” Ayoub hinted.
«It’s an unenviable position in some ways. We’re not in a hurry, are we? That’s the point. We’re going to be very measured… We have a lot of plans, a lot of potential areas for development,” Ayoub explained.
Baldur’s Gate 3 was released in August 2023 on PC and Mac via Steam and GOG, and later made its way to PS5, Xbox Series X and S. The game has earned widespread acclaim and numerous awards – so many that at one point it even began to hinder development.
