Following Redfall and Starfield, another large-scale exclusive of the Xbox ecosystem will be released on the latest Microsoft consoles without support for 60 fps – we are talking about the fantasy role-playing game Avowed from Obsidian Entertainment.

Avowed art director Matt Hansen said in an interview with the Iron Lords Podcast that Avowed is a single-player, first-person game, so 60fps is “not that important.”
According to Hansen, Obsidian is targeting at least 30fps for the Xbox Series X and S, and the developer believes 60fps is “unlikely” even on the more powerful Xbox Series X.
Obsidian traded the increased performance for Avowed’s “visual density,” “much richer visuals, lightning strikes and all that kind of stuff.”
«We made this compromise relatively early [in development] and are very happy with it. The game runs quite smoothly given its visual density, which has always been our goal,” Hansen reports.
However, players still have a chance to see 60 fps in Avowed on Xbox Series X and S. The console versions of both Redfall and Starfield still received an optional performance mode after release.
Avowed will be released on February 18, 2025 on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X and S, and Game Pass. They promise a story in the world of Eora from Pillars of Eternity, the consequences of decisions made, memorable companions and a wide selection of weapons.
