The return of the legendary mobile arcade game Flappy Bird from Vietnamese developer Dong Nguyen, announced last fall, has finally taken place, but without the participation of the game’s creator and so far only on one platform.

The Flappy Bird Foundation, which has acquired the rights to the game, announced the release of Flappy Bird on Android devices in the mobile version of the Epic Games Store. The release was accompanied by a 35-second trailer.
According to the press release, this version of Flappy Bird is monetized solely through ads/in-game purchases (various helmets for the character) and “will never contain any Web3 elements.”
The Flappy Bird Foundation plans to release Flappy Bird on browsers, PC, consoles, and iOS. It is reported that new content (worlds, characters, themes) will be added to the game throughout 2025.
However, the Flappy Bird Foundation is not abandoning its cryptocurrency initiatives. Launched last September, the Telegram version of Flappy Bird has integration with cryptocurrency wallets and the blockchain-based TON network.
The Flappy Bird Foundation is led by designer Michael Roberts, who also heads up 1208 Productions, a “Web3 pioneer” company involved with various cryptocurrency and NFT projects.
The original Flappy Bird debuted on May 24, 2013 on iOS and Android, but was removed by Nguyen from digital stores on February 10, 2014. Following this, the App Store and Play Market were flooded with clones of the game, but they were unable to repeat its success.
