Developers Julian Cordero and Sebastian Valbuena, with the support of publisher Panic, have announced the release date of Despelote, a football adventure about people, not sports.

Let us recall that Despelote was officially presented the spring before last and was originally planned for release before the end of 2024, but development was delayed: last August, the premiere was postponed to the beginning of 2025.
As it became known, Despelote will go on sale on May 1, 2025, simultaneously for PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch. The announcement was accompanied by a new gameplay trailer.
Set in 2001, Despelote follows the football fever that gripped Ecuador following the South American country’s first-ever qualification for the World Cup.
As eight-year-old Julian, players will run and kick a ball around the streets and parks of the Ecuadorian capital Quito, watching the reactions of those around them and experiencing how the city changes as the country approaches the World Cup qualifiers.
The visual style combines photographs and sounds of real Quito with sketchy characters and an unusual color palette.
They promise physics-based first-person football gameplay, a dreamy story about youth that mixes joy and sadness, a colorful and vibrant city, plenty of activities, and casual and funny dialogues with the locals.
For those who can’t wait to get out on the “field”, the developers have prepared a demo (available at the “Games Will Be” festival on Steam until March 3). The trial edition includes the first minutes of gameplay and will allow you to transfer your progress to the full game.
