Capcom’s controversial third-person action game Resident Evil 6, released over 12 years ago, could be given new life on modern systems. This is evidenced by the classification of the American regulator.

The Video Games Chronicle (VGC) portal noticed that a page for an unannounced version of Resident Evil 6 for Xbox Series X and S appeared on the website of the American rating agency Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).
According to the editors of VGC, the new classification indicates Capcom’s plans to re-release Resident Evil 6, but this time for current generation consoles – potentially with additional graphical improvements.

VGC emphasized that the fact that Resident Evil 6 for Xbox Series X and S received an ESRB classification already indicates that we are talking about a remaster, and not a full-fledged remake, as was the case with the second, third and fourth parts.
Journalists suggest that the PS5 version of Resident Evil 6 is also in development, but has not yet received a classification from the ESRB. Remasters (including those from Capcom) are usually released on Xbox and PlayStation at the same time.

The editors of VGC also wonder where Resident Evil 5 went – the 2009 action game was ported to the previous generation consoles, but did not receive further updates. The ending of the Resident Evil 4 remake, however, hinted at a continuation.
Resident Evil 6 debuted in October 2012 on PS3 and Xbox 360, came to PC in March 2013, and was subsequently released on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Total sales of the game reached 13.8 million copies last fall.
