With only two employees, the Swedish indie studio YCJY Games (Post Void, Sea Salt, The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human) after several years of teasers, presented Keep Driving – an atmospheric RPG about life on the highway.

Keep Driving takes place in the early 2000s. The main character has just bought his first car – a long, lazy summer lies ahead, but an exciting festival is planned on the other side of the country.

The protagonist starts the engine, plots a route on the map and sets off. How exactly he gets to the goal (and whether he gets there at all) depends on the player. The announcement trailer features the song Swirl by the Swedish band Westkust.

Players will have to navigate their way through a procedurally generated open world, pick up a diverse group of travel companions (each with a unique personality and story), and upgrade, personalize, and repair their car.

Problems that arise along the way (for example, when a car gets stuck behind a tractor) will have to be solved using your own skills, available items and a unique turn-based “combat” system.

They promise a nostalgic setting, earthy pixel art, multiple endings (one race will take up to four hours) and a soundtrack with songs from Swedish indie bands. Only English language is declared.

Keep Driving is being created for Steam and has no release date. The authors were inspired by the games Oregon Trail II, FTL: Faster Than Light and Jalopy, the films “Paris, Texas” and “2 Lane Highway”, as well as their own life experiences.
