In anticipation of the announcement of new video cards, game lovers took advantage of discounts on previous-generation models, especially in the lower segment of the still current 40-series. The share of one of them jumped by a third in a month, according to Steam statistics.

In the September Steam hardware summary, the share of Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 video cards increased by 1.17 percentage points, and the RTX 4060 Ti by 0.76 percentage points. These seemingly modest numbers are of great importance: in the case of the RTX 4060, we are talking about an increase in the share from 3.41% to 4.58% – by 34%. Interestingly, in combination with the mobile version of the RTX 4060, which, by the way, reduced its share by 0.18 percentage points, models with this index became the most popular on Steam.

These statistics, of course, hardly reflect the entire situation on the market, because they were collected only among Steam users. The source of the rapid growth of one of the models may be the Chinese market: together with the video card on the platform, the share of the simplified version of the Chinese language increased by 1.54 percentage points, which can partly be associated with the release of Black Myth: Wukong. In the Western market, the shares of Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti could increase in anticipation of the announcements of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 series and AMD Radeon RX 8000 series. It is logical that those who want to upgrade their video card will either now choose cheaper options of the current generation, the prices of which have already fallen (for example, RTX 4060), or will wait for the announcement of new models if they choose the upper segment of the market.

Otherwise, Steam’s September statistics are perhaps unremarkable. It’s worth noting small changes on the OS front: Windows 10 gained 1.57 p.p., and Windows 11 lost 1.48 p.p. As a result, Windows 10 again took the first place, which it had previously lost to its successor. Perhaps significant changes should be expected with the release of new video cards from both major manufacturers, but this is unlikely to happen quickly.
