No sooner had players imagined the potential gameplay possibilities that different seasons and weather conditions could offer in Assassin’s Creed Shadows than Ubisoft brought fans down to earth.
A couple of weeks ago, Ubisoft talked about how seasons and dynamic weather will affect not only the appearance of locations, but also gameplay: in winter you won’t be able to hide under water, and rain will muffle your steps.
As it turned out from the new issue of Play magazine, the influence of the listed elements on the gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be limited to the given examples for the most part.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows art director Thierry Dansereau explained that the studio did not want the change of seasons to negatively affect the gameplay.
In other words, the guard will not be able to track the protagonist based on tracks in the snow, and when climbing a wall or rocks during a rainstorm, the hero will not slide, as in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
At the same time, Ubisoft strives to make Assassin’s Creed Shadows the most beautiful and interactive game in the series: the world has become more realistic, ray-traced lighting has appeared, and the environment has destructible elements.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is expected to be released on November 15 on PC (Ubisoft Connect, EGS), Mac (App Store), PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and the game will appear on iPad by the end of 2024. The project will be one of the first adapted for PS5 Pro.
