88-year-old let’s-player Shirley Curry – aka “Skyrim Grandma”, who has been delighting viewers with gameplay videos for the cult RPG from Bethesda Softworks for the last nine years, announced the decision to retire.
According to Curry, she spends “most of her time” on the computer and has stopped enjoying recording playthroughs: “I’m old, I’m tired and I don’t really want to do anything.”
«I do this for fun, but I’m no longer having fun. I’m tired and bored to death. Therefore, I make a decision here and now, finally and irrevocably. I will no longer be releasing game videos,” Curry said in a new video.
However, Curry does not plan to end his YouTube career completely. She will spend her free time knitting, reading books and maybe even writing her own. Viewers can expect vlogs about all of the above.
For those who will miss the gaming side of her YouTube channel, Curry pointed to the library of gameplay videos accumulated over nine years for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which fans disappointed by the news can watch again.
Curry published her first video on the game in September 2015 – it also remains the most popular (2.6 million views). Since then, the grandmother-let’s-player has accumulated more than 1.3 million subscribers.
In the past, Curry has pushed Bethesda to rush the development of The Elder Scrolls VI (“I want to play it before I die”). Thanks to a fan petition, Granny Let’s Player will be officially immortalized in the upcoming RPG.
