Earlier, Electronic Arts confirmed Henderson’s reports that the events of the new Battlefield will unfold in a modern setting, and the project itself is positioned as a return to its roots with matches for 64 players and a class system.

The publisher also recalled the “new Battlefield experience” being developed by the Ripple Effect studio. According to a February report from Henderson, this wording hides a free-to-play battle royale game in the vein of Call of Duty: Warzone.

The first concept art of the new Battlefield – players figured out that it depicts Gibraltar

As Henderson reports, the campaign of the new Battlefield will tell about the struggle between NATO and a large PMC in 2027-2030 in various locations, including Gibraltar and the USA (the tropical region of the country will become the arena of the “battle royale”).

What else Henderson said:

  • 45 types of weapons are planned at launch (twice as many as at the launch of Battlefield 2042) and 10 multiplayer maps;
  • A significant overhaul of the destruction system is being prepared – the return of Levolution has not been confirmed, but weapons of different calibers will cause different damage to the environment (as in Rainbow Six Siege);
  • It will be possible to lift and carry wounded allies – this mechanic was probably added for the sake of the battle royale;
  • The gameplay is structured in such a way that the game generates memorable moments for which Battlefield is famous;
  • The developers have not yet decided on the name of the game – in mass surveys conducted by the team, there were such options as simply Battlefield or Battlefield 6.

The new Battlefield hopes to return the series to the days of Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4

EA’s announced “large-scale” public testing program for the new Battlefield, Henderson added, will not be limited to an open/closed beta, but will offer an experience similar to the test environment (CTE) of Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 1.

According to Henderson, the release of the new Battlefield is scheduled for October 2025. The game will be part of a single Battlefield universe, which is being worked on by four studios – DICE, Criterion, Motive Studio and Ripple Effect.
