Earlier it became known that the South Korean police began an investigation into Telegram as part of a case of involvement in the distribution of deepfakes of an explicit nature with Korean women. The investigation began after numerous complaints were received against the platform.

A representative of the East Asian branch of Telegram sent an official letter to the South Korean Telecommunications Standards Commission, which stated that the messenger administration had removed 25 materials from its platform, which led to a police investigation. Telegram also apologized for the misunderstanding and provided the regulator with an email address for further interaction with the department.

«We want to strengthen interaction with Telegram by providing a hotline, starting with an exclusive mailbox, to prevent the spread of fake sexual materials and ultimately eradicate prohibited digital content,” a representative of the Korean regulator commented on this issue.
