According to online sources, Apple is testing a new inexpensive Magic Keyboard, which is designed for use with the basic version of the iPad and the new iPad Air. Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reported this.

Unlike the Magic Keyboard, which was introduced with the iPad Pro in May of this year, the more affordable version of the keyboard will lack the aluminum wrist rest. Most likely, the device will be made entirely of the same material as older versions of the Magic Keyboard.

The report says that the new keyboard will be the successor to the Magic Keyboard Folio (released in 2022 with the iPad 10) and the Magic Keyboard for iPad Air (introduced in 2020 with the iPad Pro). It is noted that the device will receive several function keys, which will be an innovation for the Magic Keyboard for iPad Air.

According to Gurman, the new Magic Keyboard will hit the market in the middle of next year. If this is true, then Apple’s line of iPad keyboards will be significantly simplified. Work in this direction had already begun when Apple stopped producing the old Smart Keyboards.
