Finnish developer Remedy Entertainment (the Max Payne, Control, Alan Wake 2 duology) and Annapurna have announced a strategic partnership that will result in several positive news for the studio’s fans.

Firstly, as part of the collaboration, Annapurna will help finance (50% of the budget) the action-adventure Control 2, which has already reached a state of readiness for full production.

This will allow Remedy to make Control 2 “what it was always intended to be.” In addition, the studio announced that in addition to development (which is now “in full swing”) it will also publish the game.

Secondly, as part of the strategic partnership, Annapurna will get the rights to film adaptations of Control and Alan Wake. We are talking about films, TV series and “some other audiovisual formats.”

As a result, when Control 2 recaptures Annapurna’s initial investment, Remedy will begin to receive an increased share of the profits from the game’s sales. Annapurna, in turn, will receive an increased share of profits from film adaptations.

Creative lead Sam Lake called the partnership with Annapurna an opportunity to expand the story of Alan Wake and the interconnected Remedy universe (which also includes Control) beyond video games.

The press release to investors clarified that Remedy will retain all rights to Control and Alan Wake. In February, the studio bought its share of the rights to Control from publisher 505 Games for €17 million.
