HMD has officially unveiled a device called the Barbie Phone, a push-button flip phone with basic capabilities that lacks the wide range of features found in modern smartphones. The new product will go on sale in October for a hefty $129.

Barbie Phone runs on the S30+ platform, supports 4G LTE networks, has 128 MB of internal memory and a slot for microSD cards up to 32 GB. There are 2.8-inch main and 1.77-inch external screens. There is a Bluetooth 5.0 module, a USB Type-C port and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. There is a modest VGA camera with flash, two slots for SIM cards, and a 1450 mAh battery is enough for 9 hours of talk time.

The S30+ platform does not allow the installation of third-party applications, so the HMD Barbie Phone is addressed to those who want to “take a vacation from their smartphone”: it is possible to make calls and exchange SMS. The phone’s software platform fully matches the style of the device – right down to the reworked classic game “Snake”.

The set includes additional replacement back covers, jewelry, stickers and self-adhesive “stones”. Pre-orders for the HMD Barbie Phone will begin on September 23, and the phone will go on sale on October 1 for $129.
