According to Apple’s calculations, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models will be the most popular in the upcoming iPhone 16 series. This was reported by the resource 9to5Mac, based on data on the company’s orders for the supply of components for smartphones. According to these orders, two thirds of iPhone 16 sales will have to come from the two older models.
Calculating the iPhone 16 Pro’s share of total shipments wasn’t difficult since the periscope lens, which was an exclusive feature of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, will now be used in both the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the lower-end iPhone 16 Pro.
Typically, Apple splits component orders among multiple suppliers to reduce the risk of disruption and be in a better position to negotiate price. This makes it difficult to determine the total order size for a particular component.
But in this case, The Elec resource reported that at the initial stage, LG Innotech will be the exclusive supplier of the periscope lens module, which the company calls Folded Zoom. The resource claims that Apple has placed orders for enough Folded Zoom modules to satisfy 70% of the estimated total demand for the new iPhone line, and this is consistent with other supply chain data.
According to industry sources, Apple’s production plan for the four iPhone 16 models this year is 90.1 million units, including 26.6 million iPhone 16 Pro (30%), 33.2 million iPhone 16 Pro Max (37%) and etc. That is, Pro-series smartphones will make up 67% of the total volume of devices of the iPhone 16 family, which will be released in 2024.
