Starlink announced the launch of a special program to combat the resale of its equipment. The company is introducing an “out-of-region fee” for its satellite Internet bundles activated “outside the region in which they were originally sold.” A person or company found to have engaged in such a transaction may be subject to an additional fee of up to $300.

For standard kits the fee is $200, and for Starlink Mini it is $300. Starlink warned that the fee “may be applied in US dollars or local currencies,” which could result in even greater costs due to high exchange rates.

Starlink has designated six regions: the United States and Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America and Oceania. So far, the company is only talking about the “possible” collection of an additional fee upon activation.

To avoid the fee, Starlink recommends purchasing satellite kits either directly from the company or from an “authorized retailer in your area.”
