Huawei has introduced two new tablets – the 12.2-inch MatePad Pro 12.2 (2024) and the 12-inch MatePad Air (2024). The Pro model is the flagship model in the manufacturer’s portfolio and is equipped with a high-quality dual-layer OLED screen. Despite the names of the devices, the MatePad Pro 12.2 is thinner (5.5 mm) and lighter (508 grams) than the Air model, which is 5.9 mm thick and weighs 555 grams. The key feature of the Pro model is the display. Huawei uses a dual-layer OLED screen in the tablet, similar to that used in Apple’s new iPad Pro.

The Tandem OLED display of the MatePad Pro 12.2 tablet has a peak brightness of 2000 cd/m2, supports a resolution of 2800 × 1840 pixels and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. Huawei says this dual-layer OLED display is up to three times more durable than conventional OLED screens and 33% more energy efficient.

MatePad Air (2024) received a 12-inch IPS display with the same resolution. The peak brightness of the screen is 1000 cd/m2. Both tablets support touch input using the Huawei M-Pencil.

MatePad Air (2024)

Huawei has not said which processors are used in the devices. Presumably, the Pro model is based on the Kirin 9010. The MatePad Air offers 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of storage. The Pro model offers up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of storage.

Both tablets are equipped with 13-megapixel main and 8-megapixel wide-angle rear cameras. The MatePad Pro tablet has a 16-megapixel front camera, while the Air model has an 8-megapixel one. Both devices run the HarmonyOS 4.2 operating system. Also, both new products received 10,100 mAh batteries. The MatePad Air comes with a 66W charger, while the MatePad Pro has a 100W charger.

Matepad Pro 12.2 (2024) is available in gold, white and black options. The new product was priced at 4299 yuan (about $600). In turn, the MatePad Air (2024) will be available in green, pink, white and gray versions starting at 2999 yuan (about $420). Sales of devices in China will begin on August 13.
