Elon Musk moved Tesla’s headquarters to Texas in 2021 after rather tense arguments with the authorities of one of the California counties as a result of a sanitary lockdown that stopped the company’s production line for several weeks. Now he is threatening to move the headquarters of his two other California-based companies to Texas: the social network X and the aerospace company SpaceX.

As noted in the CNBC publication, the impetus for this decision was the legislative activity of California authorities. The state recently passed a law allowing school administrators to withhold notification of parents when children decide to change their gender identity. Musk, for whom such stories have personal significance, was deeply affected by the California governor’s move, after which he decided to move the headquarters of the former Twitter from San Francisco to Texas, as well as move the SpaceX headquarters from Hawthorne, California, closer to the company’s launch site in Texas.

«This is the last straw. “Because of this and previous laws that attack not only families, but also companies, SpaceX will move its headquarters from Hawthorne to Texas,” said Elon Musk from the pages of the social network X, adding that the latter’s headquarters will also be moved from San Francisco to Austin. The billionaire added that a year ago he already expressed his complaints to California Governor Gavin Newsom about laws of this kind that would force not only entire families, but also companies to leave the state in order to protect the interests of children.

According to media reports, in 2022, Elon Musk’s son, who received the name Javier at birth, after turning 18 years old, decided to change his name to Vivan Jenna Wilson, as well as his gender identification. This decision was largely due to the political views of Musk’s son, who adheres to neo-Marxist beliefs and strongly condemns capitalism. The change of surname to the mother’s maiden name was caused by the desire of the descendant to cross out any ties with his father. Elon Musk later expressed regret in an interview about the actions of his adult son, but emphasized that he maintains good relations with the rest of his children. It is noteworthy that Tesla, which was the first to migrate from California to Texas, ultimately retained a research center in the first state, and also continues to test its autopilot on the roads of this state. Elon Musk himself also moved to this state shortly after moving Tesla’s headquarters to Texas, but many experts suspect that he was also attracted by the softer tax regime compared to California.
