Microsoft has removed another obstacle that was preventing some Windows 11 users from updating to 24H2. The restrictions affected PCs with Asphalt 8: Airborne installed, as the operating system update was causing the game to frequently freeze and require a restart.
«Resolution: This issue has been resolved. The security hold (ID 52796746) that was previously in place for this issue has been removed. It may take up to 48 hours for the Windows 11 version 24H2 update to be available in Windows Update in Settings. Restarting your device may speed up the process,” Microsoft said.
In mid-January, Microsoft lifted restrictions on updating Windows 11 to version 24H2 for computers with Assassin’s Creed games. Previously, users had complained en masse about crashes in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Assassin’s Creed Origins after installing the latest system update. Ubisoft released patches that fixed these problems, after which Microsoft lifted the block.
In November 2024, another update affected computers connected via USB to scanners that support eSCL (eScanner Communication Language) – a driverless communication protocol that works via Ethernet, Wi-Fi and USB. It took several days to fix the situation.
In late 2024, gamers complained en masse that enabling HDR mode in games made the game graphics high-contrast and oversaturated. Microsoft confirmed the issue and admitted that enabling Auto HDR, a Windows feature that expands the color range, caused games to freeze. As a result, Windows 11 updates were blocked on PCs with HDR-capable monitors. It was only in late January 2025 that the company fixed the error and unblocked updates.
The January Windows 11 update KB5050009 was disastrous for many users. There were reports of Bluetooth headphones and devices connected via an external USB DAC not working. Users encountered the “disappearance” of the webcam with the error “Camera not detected”. Switching applications using Alt + Tab led to the system freezing. To fix these errors, sometimes deleting updates is not enough and requires reinstalling the OS. On January 29, Microsoft promptly released an update that fixed 28 different errors.
In February, similar problems arose on PCs running older versions of AutoCAD software.
The latest patch for Windows 11 24H2 released on March 15 turned out to be extremely unstable and full of glitches. Users have been reporting freezes during installation, BSoD (Blue Screen of Death), and the inability to boot the system. No fixes have been released yet.
