The group of modders responsible for CSPromod for Counter-Strike: Source, united under the Midnight Madness team, have announced CS: Legacy, a full-fledged remake of the cult multiplayer shooter Counter-Strike 1.6 from Valve.

CS: Legacy is built from the ground up using the 2013 Source SDK, but using the original source code and game assets, as well as a rewritten renderer, shaders, and various systems.

The team aims to recreate all the elements of the classic gameplay, preserving the same feeling of the game. At the same time, the remake will offer modern improvements and major technical improvements.

You can appreciate the efforts of Midnight Madness by the two-minute gameplay trailer for the remake that accompanied the announcement of CS: Legacy (the video is attached above). In 12 hours, the video received more than 6.5 thousand likes against only 31 dislikes.

The start of early access of CS: Legacy on Steam is expected during 2025. It is worth noting that the remake is positioned not as a modification, but as an independent game. Additional details will be shared soon.

It’s worth noting that CS: Legacy isn’t the only attempt by fans to revive the feeling of playing Counter-Strike 1.6. The Classic Offensive mod for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is also being prepared for launch on Steam.
